This shows who does what when a patient walks in, and links to each step’s guide.

Steps

1

Front desk: find or register

The receptionist searches on Find · check in. If the patient says they have PHB but can’t be found, use They already have PHB. If they are new, Register at desk. See Find and check in, They already have PHB and Register a patient.
2

Front desk: start the visit

Click Start visit. Choose To a doctor or To triage · nurse, add the reason and priority, and click Add to queue or Add to triage. See Walk-ins.
3

Cashier: collect payment

Walk-ins are paid at the desk. The cashier uses Collect cash under Pay at the desk. See Collect payments.
4

Nurse: triage (if sent to triage)

The nurse records the chief complaint and vitals, sets an acuity, saves, and clicks Send to doctor. See Triage.
5

Doctor: see the patient

The patient appears on the doctor’s Today. The doctor opens their own access to the record, usually a treatment basis, writes the note and signs it. See Getting access to a record and Encounters and notes.
6

Doctor: prescribe

From the Meds tab. The patient is notified. See Prescribing.
7

Pharmacist: dispense

The pharmacist finds the prescription by HPN or phone, confirms who is collecting, counsels and dispenses. See Dispense a prescription.

Things to know

  • The front desk never sees clinical notes.
  • The nurse’s access doesn’t pass to the doctor. The doctor opens their own.
  • If the patient has no phone, care still goes ahead. See Patient without a phone.
