# Triage

> See walk-ins sent to triage, set acuity, record the chief complaint and vitals, and hand off to a doctor.

## Before you start

You need the role `nurse` and a verified NMCN licence. Open **Triage** (`/nursing/triage`).

## Steps

  <Step title="Pick the next patient">
    Walk-ins the front desk sent **To triage · nurse** appear in your queue. Open one.

  <Step title="Chief complaint">
    Choose or type the **Chief complaint**, such as **Chest pain** or **Headache**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Vitals">
    Record **Systolic BP**, **Diastolic BP**, **Heart rate**, **Resp. rate**, **Temperature** and **Pain score**, and any others you take.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose an acuity">
    Acuity is required: **RED**, **YELLOW** or **GREEN**. You decide. **Queue preview · after save** shows where the patient will land.

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save triage**. You see **Triage saved**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Hand off or keep">
    Under **Hand off to a doctor**, pick from **Choose a doctor…** and click **Send to doctor**. Or click **Done · stay in queue**.

When you save triage, PHB opens a treatment basis for you so you can record this visit. The patient is told.

## What you can do here

* Triage walk-ins.
* Hand off to a doctor's queue.

  After the hand-off, the doctor still needs their own access to read the full chart. Your access doesn't pass to them.

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Choose an acuity — the nurse decides (RED / YELLOW / GREEN).** | Set an acuity before you save. |
| **Nurse workspace — permission needed** | You don't hold the `nurse` role here. Ask your owner or admin. |
| Save is locked | Complete NMCN onboarding first. |
| **Your session has expired.** | Click **Sign in again →**. If it opens the patient sign-in page, go to `/hospital/login` instead. |
