# Receive specimens

> Find an order in the queue and accept or reject its specimen.

## Before you start

You need the role `lab_tech` at the lab the order was sent to.

## Steps

  <Step title="Open the queue">
    Go to **Orders** (`/lab/orders`). Orders are grouped as **Pending accession**, **In progress** and **Released**. Each row shows **Priority** (**STAT**, **Urgent** or **Routine**), **Accession**, **Patient · HPN**, **Panel**, **Ordered by**, when it was **Ordered**, and its **State**.

    Click the order. You see the **Ordered tests** and the **Clinical indication**.

  <Step title="Receive or reject">
    Under **Specimen**, click **Receive specimen**. You see **Specimen received — you can enter results.**
    Or click **Reject…**, pick a **Rejection reason · required**, such as **Haemolysed**, **Clotted at draw**, **Insufficient volume**, **Mislabelled**, **Wrong tube / additive** or **Lipaemic**, and click **Confirm rejection**. You see **Specimen rejected — recollection needed.**

## What you can do here

* Accept specimens so results can be entered.
* Reject specimens with a reason.

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Awaiting the specimen.** | The specimen hasn't arrived or been received yet. |
| **Choose a rejection reason.** | Pick a reason before you confirm. |
| **You don't have lab access at this facility.** | You don't hold `lab_tech` here. |
| **No orders in this view.** | Nothing is waiting in this group. |
