# Enter and release results

> Enter results, save a draft, then sign and release. Sensitive results are held for the doctor.

## Before you start

You need the role `lab_tech`, a received specimen, and a **verified MLSCN licence** to release.

## Steps

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the order">
    From **Orders**, open an order whose specimen is received.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the values">
    For each **Analyte**, enter the **Value**. The **Unit**, **Reference** range and **Flag** are shown alongside.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save a draft">
    Click **Save draft**. You see **Draft saved.** You can come back to it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign and release">
    Click **Sign & release**. You see **Result released**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What happens after you release

* The ordering doctor sees the result in their Inbox.
* A **non-sensitive** result appears in the patient's record.
* A **sensitive** result, such as an HIV test, is held. The patient sees nothing about it, not even the test name, until the doctor releases it to them after counselling.

## Printing

You can print a result slip. It includes non-sensitive results only. A sensitive result never prints.

## What you can't do

* Amend a released result. There is no amend option yet.
* Release without a verified MLSCN licence.

<Note>
  The list of which tests count as sensitive is a starter list, waiting for clinical sign-off.
</Note>

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Enter at least one analyte value.** | Type at least one value before saving. |
| **Verify your MLSCN folio to release results.** | Finish [Lab onboarding](/guides/lab/onboarding). |
| Nothing to print | Every result on this order is sensitive. |
