# Manage staff

> Change roles, suspend, mark on leave, reactivate, offboard, and reset passwords or two-factor.

## Before you start

You need the role `owner` or `admin`.

## Steps

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the staff directory">
    Click **Staff directory** on `/hospital`, or **Staff** in the sidebar. This opens `/hospital/staff`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open a person">
    Click their name to open their page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Make your change">
    Use the section you need, described below.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What you can do here

| Section | What you can do |
| - | - |
| **Roles** | Add a role with **Add a role…**, or remove one. A person can hold more than one role. |
| **Service lines** | Choose the services a clinician offers, so patients and the Care Line can find them. |
| **Sign-in & recovery** | **Reset password** emails them a one-time link to choose a new password. **Reset two-factor** lets them set up a new authenticator. You never see their password. |
| **Employment status** | Set **Active**, **On leave** or **Suspend**. Suspended staff can't sign in. |
| **Offboard** | Remove them from your facility. You are asked **Offboard this member from this facility?** first. |
| **Pending invite** | **Resend invite** if they haven't accepted yet. |

## Rules to know

* Only an owner can remove the `owner` role from someone.
* A facility must always keep at least one owner. You can't remove the last one.
* **License & credentials** on this page is not available yet. Staff verify their own licence through onboarding.

## Common problems

| What you see | Why |
| - | - |
| **Only an owner may revoke owner** | You are an admin, not an owner. |
| **That action was rejected.** | A rule blocked it, such as removing the last owner. |
| **This member has been offboarded.** | They no longer work here. |
