# Invite staff

> Add staff to your hospital one at a time or from a CSV file, and choose each person's role.

## Before you start

You need:

* The role `owner` or `admin`.
* Each person's name and **work email**.
* The role they will have. See [Roles at your facility](/guides/hospital-admin/roles-at-your-facility).

## Steps

### One person

    Click **Invite staff** on `/hospital`, or in the sidebar under Staff. This opens `/hospital/staff/invite`.

  <Step title="Fill in their details">
    **Given name**, **Family name**, **Work email**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a role">
    Pick from **Role**. Only an owner can invite another owner.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send">
    Click **Send invite**. They get an email to set their own password.

### Many people at once

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the bulk import">
    On the invite page, under **Onboard many at once**, click **Bulk import from CSV**. This opens `/hospital/staff/bulk`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Get the template">
    Click **Download sample template** and fill in one row per person.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Upload and review">
    Upload the file. PHB checks every row and shows **Total rows**, **Will import**, **Need attention**, **Valid** and **Warnings**. Fix email errors in place, or **Export error report**.

  <Step title="Import">
    Confirm. Valid rows are invited. Rows with errors are skipped. The import is never all-or-nothing.

## What happens next

* Each person accepts their invite. See [Accept a staff invite](/account/accept-a-staff-invite).
* Doctors, nurses, pharmacists and lab scientists then verify their licence themselves. The **Council license** field on the invite form is not available yet.

## Common problems

| Problem | What to do |
| - | - |
| They didn't get the email | Open their page in **Staff directory** and click **Resend invite**. |
| You can't choose `owner` | Only an owner can invite an owner. |
| You don't see Invite staff | You don't hold `owner` or `admin`. |
