# Departments, wards and beds

> Map your building in Configuration: the facility profile, sites, departments, wards and beds.

## Before you start

You need the role `owner` or `admin`. Other roles see Configuration as read-only.

Open **Configuration** from `/hospital`, or go to `/hospital/config`.

## Steps

### Facility profile and sites

<Steps>
  <Step title="Facility profile">
    Under **Facility profile**, fill in **Facility type**, **Ownership**, **Tier**, **Level**, **State**, **Hours & contact** and **Branding**. Choose **Open 24/7** or **Custom…** hours.

  <Step title="Sites">
    Under **Sites**, add each building with **Site name**, **Address**, **Phone**, **Beds** and **Site lead**. Click **Save site**. Use **Set primary** for your main site.

### Departments and wards

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add a department">
    Under **Departments & wards**, enter a **New department** and its **Specialty**, then click **Add department**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add wards">
    Inside the department, click **Add ward**. Choose its **Type** and how many **Beds** it holds.

  <Step title="Create the beds">
    Click **Generate beds to capacity** to create all the beds at once, or **Add a bed** one at a time. Set the ward's bed capacity first.

## What you can do here

* Keep your profile, sites, departments, wards and beds up to date.
* See your **Affiliated pharmacies**.

  **Coverage plans** in Configuration are not available yet.

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| **Set this ward's bed capacity above first.** | Enter the number of beds for the ward, then generate them. |
| **No departments yet.** | Add your first department. |
| Fields won't save | You need `owner` or `admin`. |
