# How care works on PHB

> One visit from start to finish, with links to each task guide and what is not available yet.

This page follows one visit through PHB. Each step links to the task guide for the person doing it.

## One visit, step by step

<Steps>
  <Step title="Register or book">
    A patient books in the app (`/care`), or the front desk registers them or checks them in. See [Book care](/guides/patient/book-care) and [Walk-ins](/guides/front-desk/walk-ins).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Triage (walk-ins)">
    A walk-in sent to triage waits in the nurse's queue. The `nurse` records vitals and chooses an acuity. See [Triage](/guides/nurse/triage) and [Triage scope and acuity](/care/nurses/triage-scope-and-acuity).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Encounter">
    The `clinician` opens the patient's record, then writes and signs the note. See [Getting access to a record](/guides/doctor/getting-access-to-a-record) and [Encounters and notes](/guides/doctor/encounters-and-notes).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Orders and prescribing">
    From the encounter, the `clinician` orders tests and prescribes. See [Lab orders and results](/guides/doctor/lab-orders-and-results) and [Prescribing](/guides/doctor/prescribing).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Lab and pharmacy">
    The `lab_tech` receives the specimen, enters results and releases them. The `pharmacist` dispenses. See [Receive specimens](/guides/lab/receive-specimens), [Enter and release results](/guides/lab/enter-and-release-results) and [Dispense a prescription](/guides/pharmacist/dispense-a-prescription).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Results and records">
    The patient sees released results and the visit in their record. See [Records and results](/guides/patient/records-and-results).
  </Step>
</Steps>

Roles and what each can do are in [Roles and permissions](/reference/roles-and-permissions). How a clinician gets into a record is in [Emergency access to your record](/care/patients/emergency-access-to-your-record).

## What is not available yet

See [Feature status](/reference/feature-status) for the full list. Two limits matter for care:

* Diagnoses are written in the note. The ICD-11 field exists on patient conditions only, with no code picker.
* There is no medication administration record. Use [Request a call](/guides/patient/request-a-call) for help from PHB today.
